Dubai to offer flying taxis services by 2026

Dubai Airport to Palm Jumeirah in 10 mins, flying taxis services expected to launch in 2026, cut travel time.

Dubai is planning to introduce flying taxis that can reach top speeds of 320 km/hr. This is expected to reduce travel time between Dubai Airport and Palm Jumeirah from 30-45 minutes to just 10 minutes. The information comes from Ahmed Bahrozyan, the CEO of the Public Transport Agency at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority. “With the speed, range, and limited charging time, these vehicles can take passengers from Dubai Airport to the vertiport in Palm Jumeirah in 10 minutes or less,” he said.

According to his statement, the flying taxi was appropriate for transporting passengers to various emirates. He mentioned that the flying taxi had a good range, which could facilitate inter-emirates trips. Although they have some exciting plans, their initial focus will be on Dubai routes.

During the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, Skyports, Joby, and RTA signed definitive agreements for an ambitious flying taxi project. The project is the first of its kind and involves building vertiports for the flying taxis to land in, operating the aircraft, and managing the entire operation. With the agreements in place, the project is one step closer to becoming a reality.

Ahmed has disclosed that the project launch is scheduled for 2026. He stated, “Our first service will be launched with six air taxis in Dubai in 2026. It could be the first of its kind in the world and there is a lot to be learned. We will assess the demand and determine what people are seeking.”

“He said that the RTA will provide an end-to-end service at the vertiport. He explained that they will control all the mobility services, ensuring that the vertiport is linked to the metro station. Additionally, they may provide a limo service, making it an even more comprehensive end-to-end service.”
