UAE-Oman railway project enters the construction phases.

UAE-Oman railway project will now be known as Hafeet Rail — derived from the railway’s scenic route from the desert to mountainous regions, running alongside Jebel Hafeet.

On Tuesday, a top official revealed that significant progress has been made on the long-awaited UAE-Oman railway project that will connect the UAE and Oman. The project, known as Hafeet Rail, has now entered the implementation phase, and trains will soon be transporting passengers between the two countries.

Partnership agreements have been signed and key contracts have been awarded to UAE and Omani companies that will be operating as one team, said Ahmed Al Musawa Al Hashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail.

Previously known as ‘Oman and Etihad Rail Company’, Hafeet Rail was unveiled on Tuesday as the new brand identity of the joint venture company that will be running the railway.

The new brand was inspired by the scenic route of the UAE-Oman railway project line that starts from Abu Dhabi’s Al Wathba area and ends at the Omani city and port of Sohar. The train journey will take passengers through diverse geographical areas, ranging from desert to mountainous and valley regions while running alongside Jebel Hafeet.

Al Hashemi, speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the joint UAE-Oman Business Forum in Abu Dhabi, said the project will yield numerous economic and social benefits.

He highlighted that the railways operate with high efficiency in terms of safety and security and are among the most sustainable means of transportation environmentally.

The UAE-Oman railway project is expected to enhance cooperation across different economic and industrial sectors, with a direct impact on passenger movement between the two countries and a further boost to tourism and bilateral ties, according to Al Hashemi.
